Medications
Various medications are used to treat psychological and psychosomatic disorders. Here you will find more information on the most important ones.
Antidepressants
Antidepressants are used to treat depression. Antidepressants make people more capable of action and also relieve their repetitive thoughts.
The highest success rate is seen in severe depression. We differentiate between three types of antidepressants:
- those that increase drive
- those that are drive-neutral
- those that induce sleep
Antipsychotics
Antipsychotics are used to treat psychosis and schizophrenia.
These medications have a calming and soothing effect on the nerves.
Older drugs had a motor effect (affecting movements). New antipsychotics such as Olanzapine and Quetiapine do not have this effect.
Benzodiazepines
Benzodiazepines are used to treat panic attacks.
They have anxiolytic, sleep-inducing, and mildly euphoric effects.
Benzodiazepines are used only at the beginning of therapy. After that, an alternative must be found relatively quickly.
Mood Stabilizers
Mood stabilizers are used for bipolar disorders and emotional instability.
These medications dampen mood swings and filter out external influences. Lithium preparations are among the most popular medications in this area.
Stimulants
Stimulants are used for alertness and drive disorders, as well as for individuals who struggle with self-organization and planning of actions. They have a calming and organizing effect.
Stimulants are primarily used in patients with ADHD and ADD syndromes.
